Fat transfer breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure that’s generally performed under local anesthesia, and takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Once completed, both the donor area and your breasts are protected with compression and support garments to reduce swelling and promote healing, after which you are free to return home. You will need a few days off, after which you can start resuming your usual routine. Residual pain, swelling, or minor bruising will resolve over the following weeks.

If you’re looking for an increase of several cup sizes, you are likely a better candidate for breast augmentation with saline or silicone implants. You must have enough excess fat on your body to be a good candidate for this natural breast enhancement.

The procedure

Step One

The donor area is identified and marked. The selected area will be cosmetically enhanced by removing fat for a trimmer, more sculpted body. The donor area may be love handles, thighs, or abdomen.

Step Two

The donor area is injected with tumescent fluid to numb the area and cause the fat cells to be more easily extracted. If larger quantities of fat are to be removed, intravenous sedation may be administered.

Step Three

The fat cells are extracted from the donor area with gentle liposuction to preserve the integrity of the cells to be transferred.

Step Four

The fat is purified and placed into syringes.

Step Five

The fat is injected into the breasts, with small droplets injected throughout the breast parenchyma.

Step Six

The fat is injected into each breast, placing small droplets of fat in the breast parenchyma (the soft tissue of the breast).
